Title I Information

What is Title I?

Title I, Part A is a federal grant program under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). It provides financial assistance to local educational agencies and schools with high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards.

Title I resources are designed to supplement—not replace—regular classroom instruction.

How We Use Title I at Preble Shawnee Elementary

Our goal is to identify learning gaps early and provide tailored support so students stay on track for grade-level achievement. Here is how Title I funds are used in our building:

  • Targeted Small-Group Instruction: Intervention specialists and instructional aides work directly with small groups of students to reinforce foundational reading and math concepts.

  • Evidence-Based Learning Resources: Funding allows us to purchase specialized reading interventions, phonics tools, hands-on math manipulatives, and digital learning programs.

  • Ongoing Assessment & Progress Monitoring: We continuously track student performance using diagnostic screeners to ensure support adapts as students grow.

  • Family Engagement Programs: Title I supports family literacy nights, workshops, and take-home learning materials so parents can support skill-building at home.

Parent and Family Engagement

We believe that education is a partnership between the school and the home. As a parent of a student at Preble Shawnee Elementary, you have the right to be involved in your child’s educational journey.

Ways to Get Involved:

  1. Annual Title I Meeting: Join us each fall to learn about our Title I program, curriculum standards, and student assessment tools.

  2. School-Parent Compact: Review and sign our annual agreement outlining how staff, parents, and students share responsibility for improved academic achievement.

  3. Parent Conferences: Meet with teachers and intervention staff during scheduled conference days to discuss your child's progress.
